Campaign to stop Malema launched

The civil rights organisation, AfriForum Youth this weekend launched what it calls the "Stop Malema" campaign in reaction to recent controversial statements by ANC Youth League leader, Julius Malema.

The organisation says its campaign will include a protest march scheduled to take place this Friday.

This campaign has been undertaken in order to give the public an opportunity to participate actively and to contribute towards calling Malema to account for his conduct, says AfriForum Youth's National Chairman, Ernst Roets.

A website, www.stopmalema.co.za, has also been established as part of the campaign.

Roets says information listed on the website include a translation of Malema's controversial song and a petition to be used by AfriForum and AfriForum Youth in the Equality Court against Malema in order to prove the public's objection to Malema's conduct.

He says they have been inundated with calls from people who expressed support for the campaign.

According to AfriForum, Malema has gone too far.

"As civil rights organisation and members of the public, we all have a duty to make our voices heard and to protest against Malema's conduct. If we keep quiet and accept this, it means that we condone his actions."
